Police say they have recovered $198,000 worth of personal property from a burglary suspect, along with a ledger listing homes being targeted.
The investigation began in early November when West Vancouver Police investigated a break-in that occurred in the 500-block of Southborough Drive while the owners were on vacation. The home had been ransacked and items such as cash and jewelry were missing.
The home was equipped with security camerae, providing police with an image of a person. Investigators identified a Port Coquitlam resident as a possible suspect.
West Vancouver Police and Coquitlam RCMP worked together to search a Port Coquitlam home. Police found the suspect inside the home, along with a number of stolen items, including some believed to be from the Southborough property.
Among the items seized were tools, jewelry, two replicas of firearms, watches, collector coins, and thousands of dollars in Canadian, U.S. and international currency
“One of the items seized by police appears to be a ledger of addresses targeted by the suspect,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with Coquitlam RCMP. “There has been so much stolen property recovered that we’re still in the process of finding the proper owners. We’re also in the process of establishing charges for at least five more break and enters in our jurisdiction.”
Michael Horyn, a 52-year-old Port Coquitlam resident is charged with one count of break and enter and one count of possession of stolen property. He remains in custody and will appear in North Vancouver court on Dec. 13.
