Police say a man and a woman will likely face charges after allegations they assaulted a group of teens, fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and then attempted to run away through snow before being arrested by police.

Kelowna RCMP were called to East Kelowna’s Gulley Road on Tuesday around noon by a group of about nine teens, who said they were approached and assaulted by a man and woman. Police did not reveal the age of the teens and it is unclear whether the man and woman and the teens were known to each other.

The man and woman then left in a grey Acura SUV but not before colliding with an occupied red SUV, linked to the teens.

Police said the driver of the red SUV suffered minor injuries, as did the assault victims. All were treated at the scene by paramedics.

RCMP said they tracked the Acura and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop. Officers used a spike belt and the vehicle was stopped on a forestry road, where the pair attempted to flee by foot through snow.

“The man and woman, who according to the arresting officers were grateful to see police after taking an unplanned trek through the snow, were taken into custody without further incident,” said Const. Solana Paré.

Officers identified the Acura as having been reported stolen in the Kelowna area two weeks earlier and that it contained what appeared to be stolen property reported missing from a delivery vehicle earlier in the day.

A 29-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman remain in custody Wednesday and will likely face a number of charges.
