Three people have been arrested in two shoplifting incidents in which security guards were threatened with weapons.
The first case took place Dec. 6 around noon, when a man was spotted allegedly stealing alcohol from a B.C. Liquor Store on Commercial Drive.
A security guard arrested the man and put him in handcuffs. Despite that, police allege, the man pulled a knife on the officer and fled. Vancouver police found and arrested the man.
Tyler Fitzpatrick, 20, is charged with offences linked to the liquor-store arrest and remains in custody. Fitzpatrick was wanted on warrants issued in several B.C.communities at the time of his arrest.
In another incident, on Dec. 8, police allege a man was caught trying to steal hundreds of dollars’ worth of clothing from Lululemon in Kitsilano. When a security guard tried to stop him, the man brandished a can of bear spray and fled the store.
A short time later, a woman believed to be linked to the man who had fled, entered the store and, police allege, tried to steal clothing. The security officer stopped the woman and police were called. The police found the man as well, and both were arrested.
Vancouver residents Andre Goudrea, 40, and Patricia Dove, 41, are charged with offences linked to the incident and remain in custody.
A recent Vancouver police blitz targeting shoplifters in Downtown Vancouver led to officers arrest 25 individuals over a three-week period.
