MAKATI City will no longer accept new applications for Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) licenses, Mayor Abby Binay said.
Binay declared an indefinite moratorium on the issuance of new business licenses and permits to service providers because of rising criminality and prostitution.
Binay also cited “overheating” in the residential and commercial leasing market as one of the reasons for her decision.
Makati hosts some 300 POGO service providers that employ thousands of workers, mostly Chinese.
These companies provide services like live e-casino video streaming, call center, marketing and other technical support to POGOs. Jan Arcilla
