200 poor Muslims to join Hajj

MARAWI CITY: The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will sponsor 200 indigent Filipino Muslims who will go on pilgrimage to Mecca next year, an official said.
Datu Ramos Jr., head of the NCMF’s Bureau of External Relations, said President Rodrigo Duterte promised to send poor Muslims to Mecca during the celebration of Eidl Fitr in Davao City.
Ramos said the agency will carefully screen applicants to ensure that only indigents will be included.
Several requirements were set for applicants — they should be at least 50 years old, had never performed the hajj – one of the five pillars of Islam, are physically fit, and a devoted Muslim.
The deadline for submission of applications is on January 6, 2020. ASANGAN T. MADALE
