Cop fatally shoots man who beheaded woman in Misamis Oriental
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Philippines — The suspect in the beheading of a woman in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental was shot dead by a police officer Friday night after the man grabbed a gun from one of his escorts and shot another officer.
According to a police report, the suspect, Lloyd Bagtong, 21, a resident of Barangay Casibole in Talisayan, was shot three times after grabbing a cop’s pistol and shooting one of them.
Bagtong allegedly killed a still unidentified woman early morning Thursday by decapitating her head using a scythe and then ate her brain for breakfast.
The report said a police convoy was transporting Bagtong from Talisayan to Cagayan de Oro for the suspect’s inquest at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office when suddenly the vehicle’s tire burst at around 7:40 p.m. while they were already in Barangay Punta Gorda of Jasaan town.
Jasaan is about 62 km from Talisayan and only 30 km away from Cagayan de Oro.
Capt. Maribeth Ramoga, Talisayan police chief, said Bagtong was brought to this city for inquest proceedings as there was no available prosecutor in Talisayan at the time.
Ramoga said they had to request for two vehicles from the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office to be used to bring Bagtong and a few witnesses to the prosecutor’s office.
Aboard the other police vehicle were the witnesses and additional police escorts, said Maj. Dennis delos Santos, Jasaan police commander.
When the convoy made a stop, Delos Santos said Bagtong asked that he be allowed to get down and take a leak.
While a police officer was transferring the suspect’s handcuffed hands to his front, Bagtong took the opportunity to grab the officer’s service pistol and fired at his escorts, although no one was hit.
Delos Santos said the suspect managed to fire only one shot before he was shot by one of the escorts.
Bagtong took two bullets on his chest and one on his side, Delos Santos added.
Bagtong was rushed to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead by the attending physician, the report said.
Delos Santos said Bagtong’s body was brought to Talisayan by his relatives on Saturday morning.
