A pedestrian died early Saturday on a highway in Richmond, in what appears to be a collision with a vehicle.
Richmond Mounties have released very few details, but say they were called out at around 6:30 a.m. to a traffic “incident” on the south bound lane on Highway 99 by Steveston Highway.
When they arrived, investigators found a body on the side of the highway and the person appeared to have been hit by a car, according to RCMP E Division.
No car was on site when RCMP arrived, and no driver stayed behind to speak to police.
It has not been confirmed the person was hit by a car and that remains under investigation.
Investigators are working with the Deas Freeway Patrol to determine what caused the fatality.
Police say traffic congestion is heavy, and drivers are being rerouted through the Steveston Highway exit and then back on to Highway 99.
The south bound tunnel remains open.
