Senate earmarked funds for DENR to build recycling plants, composting facilities nationwide, says Villar
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate assigned funds for plastic recycling factories and composting facilities in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) budget for next year, according to Sen. Cynthia Villar.
At a forum by Stratbase on environment, Villar said a provision had been put in the 2020 DENR budget requiring the department to have a recycling factory in all provinces and cities.
There’s also a provision in the DENR budget mandating the construction of composting facilities in all towns, she said.
Composting facilities would help recycle kitchen wastes and turn these into fertilizer, she added.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu had said the department was finishing an order to ban single-use plastics and implement a plastic recycling program.
