Duterte names new ombudsman for Luzon

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Deputy Special Prosecutor Cornelio Somido as head of the Office of the Ombudsman for Luzon.
Somido took his oath on Tuesday evening before Duterte in Malacañang. He succeeded Gerard Mosquera, who stepped down on June 1, 2019.
He was one of the three candidates shortlisted by the Judicial and Bar Council. The other two were Rodolfo Noel Quimbo and Ombudsman Director Beda Epres.
Somido, a certified public accountant, hails from San Andres, Catanduanes. He finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy in 1979 at the Catanduanes State College and graduated from the University of the East College of Law in 1985.
He joined the Office of the Ombudsman as a prosecutor in 1992.
