‘Tisoy’ death toll rises to 17, 2 missing

SEVENTEEN people died while two others were reported missing after the onslaught of typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri), which has since weakened into a severe tropical storm as it made its exit from the Philippines.
As of Wednesday, authorities reported that five people died in Bicol — three in Camarines Sur and two in Sorsogon.
Of the three victims in Camarines Sur, one from Libmanan town was electrocuted, another drowned and the third from Pili also drowned.
In Sorsogon, one drowned in Bulan while another in Sorsogon City died while inside the evacuation center.
In Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), seven people died — five from Oriental Mindoro and two from Marinduque, according to the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
The OCD in Eastern Visayas confirmed one death in Ormoc City. The victim sustained a severe head injury when he was hit by a falling tree.
Three persons died in Quezon.
In the town of Catanauan, a man identified as Rafael Palma was hit by a falling tree while in Polilio, another victim, identified as Joevit Sta. Ana, was hit by lightning while catching a fish along the shore of Sitio Bigyan, Barangay Sibulan in the same town at the height of the storm.
A 63-year-old woman, identified by the OCD in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) as Salvacion Plancia, died in the town of Agdangan.
In Batangas City, a 57-year-old, identified as Porferio Luan, drowned while crossing the Pinamucan river.
Missing persons were recorded in Maayon, Capiz and in Divicalan, Isabela.
At least 6,761 houses were damaged, according to the regional OCD reports. Of the total, 6,710 were from Bicol and 51 from Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque,Romblon, Palawan).
Agricultural damage in Bicol and Mimaropa was estimated at P667.3 million and P156.5 million respectively. Affected crops were coconut, rice, corn, high-value crops, fishponds, livestock, among others.
