An American company has bought SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon.
Powdr, based in Park City, Utah, has added SilverStar to its existing portfolio of 10 mountain resorts, all of which are in the U.S.
The company bought SilverStar for an undisclosed price from Jane Cann, who has owned the resort since 2012. Cann will retain ownership of Schumann Resorts Ltd., which owns 30 acres of development land.
“SilverStar is a world-class resort destination that fits well with who Powdr is, what our properties are — community favourites — and our commitment to protecting and enhancing the authentic year-round experience for generations to come,” Powdr co-president Justin Sibley said in a Tuesday release.
“I am thrilled to pass the torch to such a competent and qualified operator as Powdr, who share the same mission and beliefs for the SilverStar resort community and is committed to delivering memorable experiences and enhancing people’s lives,” Cann said in the release.
“I am confident that their scale and expertise will be beneficial in working toward the realization of SilverStar’s newly-approved master plan,” Cann said.
SilverStar is a 20-minute drive east of Vernon and a one-hour drive from Kelowna’s airport. It has 3,282 acres of skiable terrain, a 760-metre vertical drop and an annual snowfall of more than 700 cm.
Powdr’s other resorts are in California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Vermont.
