The fifth edition of the Just for Laughs NorthWest comedy festival promises to present some of the biggest names in contemporary comedy, industry heavyweights, freshfaced up-and-comers and the return of the JFL NorthWest Block Party.

Ticket presales for the 12-day event began Dec. 3, while all shows go on sale on Dec. 6 at JFLNorthWest.com.

Among the headliners at this year’s event are Margaret Cho (Feb. 15, 7 p.m., Vogue Theatre), Saturday Night Live alumnus Jay Pharoah (Feb. 20, 7 p.m., Vogue Theatre), and Crazy Rich Asians’ Ronny Chieng (Feb. 22, 7 p.m., Vogue).

Tasmanian powerhouse Hannah Gadsby brings a new show titled Douglas to town which has already added a second date (Feb. 24, 25, 7:30 p.m., Orpheum Theatre).

Obviously, you can’t have a comedy festival in the modern day without bringing in  podcasters. Among those appearing are Brendan Schaub (Below the Belt, The King and the Sting, The Fighter and the Kid), who brings his new 50 Shades of Brown Tour (Feb. 21, 9:30 p.m., Vogue Theatre), while the award-winning trio behind How Did This Get Made? will do a live recording of the show (Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Feb. 22, 9:30 p.m.). History buffs will be pleased to hear that Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds will present their The Dollop US history podcast (Vogue, Feb. 15, 9:30 p.m.)

Those with a penchant for edgier and hipper work will want to check out the lineup at the smaller clubs and alternative spaces withe everything from Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino’s Off Book: The Improvised Musical Podcast (Feb. 22, 9:30 p.m., Biltmore) to the Sirius XM Top Comic Showcases with Adam Christie (Feb. 19, 20, 8 p.m., Yuk Yuks) and Comedy Short Shorts (Feb. 16, TBA, Vancity Theatre).

Just For Laughs Group presently produces festivals in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney, Australia. Its broadcasts and programs are seen in 150 countries and the company books major cross-country tours in both Canada and the U.S. The Montreal JFL festival is the largest of its kind in the world, drawing an average of 2 million.
