TYPHOON “Tisoy” headed off the coast of Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday afternoon, as it weakened further although occasional to frequent heavy rains were still expected in affected areas, the state-run weather bureau said.
In its 5 p.m bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted the eye of “Tisoy” at 110 kilometers northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro or 135 kms north of Coron, Palawan.
Tisoy packed sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph while moving west at 25 kph.

It first made landfall in Sorsogon on Monday night, crossed San Pascual in Burias Island, Masbate at 4 a.m. and then Torrijos in Marinduque at 8:30 a.m.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja said Pagasa would not recommend a suspension of classes in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon on Wednesday as they expected good weather.

Meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz of GMA-7 had said that Tisoy could bring torrential rains that could raise the water level in the dam by four to five meters.
The Bulacan provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) said Tisoy could fill up Angat Dam, the main source of water for Metro Manila residents, because of its torrential rains.
The PDRRMO said the dam’s water level rose to 188.82 meters on Saturday, 188.98 meters on Sunday and 189.05 meters at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Magat Dam is at 190.6 meters as of 3 p.m. on Monday. The dam’s spilling level is 193 meters, the National Irrigation Administration said. FRANZ LEWIN EMBUDO
