Thousands flee homes as ‘Tisoy’ unleashes fury

THOUSANDS of families and individuals fled their homes as typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) ravaged parts of the country with its strong winds and heavy rain.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that as of Tuesday morning, a preemptive evacuation was enforced in the regions of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas.
In Bicol, a total of 55,844 families or 217,308 persons were evacuated. Of the total, 39,038 families or 152,137 individuals came from Albay; 2,876 families or 9,976 persons in Camarines Norte; 6,426 families or 26,092 persons in Camarines Sur; 1,478 families or 6,645 persons in Catanduanes; 181 families or 712 persons in Masbate; and 5,845 families or 21,746 persons in Sorsogon.
In Calabarzon, the NDRRMC released a report in Quezon province where 101 families or 441 individuals from the towns of General Luna, Tagkawayan, Guinayangan and Atimonan were evacuated.
In Marinduque, a total of 178 families or 829 persons were evacuated in the towns of Buenavista, Boac, Gasan and Torrijos.
In Romblon province, 76 families or 328 persons were evacuated in the towns of San Agustin and Corcuera.
Cebu helped 132 families or 615 persons out of their homes in the towns of Carmen and Sta. Fe.
A total of 1,663 families or 6,575 persons left their homes in the provinces of Leyte, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar.
A total of 22 houses were also damaged in the provinces of Camarines Sur, Apayao and Kalinga, the NDRRMC said in its report.
In Metro Manila, which is on the path of “Tisoy,” Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes as it directed disaster agencies to brace for the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year.
