PH dominates arnis with 14 golds

ANGELES, Pampanga — The Philippines proved to be dominant in its own Martial Art and Sport.
The Philippine arnis team bagged a total of 14 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals in the 30th Southeast Asian Games to win the overall championship on Tuesday.
Crisamuel Delfin topped the open-weapon non-traditional men’s while Mary Allin Aldeguer shone in the distaff to add two more golds on Tuesday held at the Angeles University Foundation here.
With 20 golds at stake in arnis, the Philippines grabbed the 14 with three other countries sharing the remaining six. Vietnam copped four, Cambodia, one and Myanmar, one.
In the traditional open weapon finals, Mark David Puzon and Ryssa Jezzel Sanchez each bagged a silver medal.
The 14-gold medal haul matched the projection of Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF) president Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Team Philippines is leading the overall medal tally with 43 gold, 21 silver, and 14 bronze medals, leading closest pursuers Vietnam (17-23-17) and Malaysia (10-2-7). JEAN RUSSEL V. DAVID
