The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating what part an attempted traffic stop in Fort St. John may have had in a later crash.
On Thursday around 2 a.m., a Fort St. John RCMP officer attempted to pull over a truck with no tail lights. The driver sped off. Rather than give chase, the officer pulled over, turned off his emergency lights and let dispatch know he had not pursued the driver.
A short time later, the truck was found rolled in a ditch with the driver still inside. First responders pulled the man from the truck and he was taken to hospital for treatment.
The RCMP is investigating the case. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is conducting a separate investigation into whether the officer’s actions were linked to the crash.
No further information was released.
