IT was “chicken sausage” and not “kikiam” that was served to women footballers early this week, the hotel that fed the athletes said in a statement on Wednesday.
Edgardo Capulong, Whitewoods Convention and Leisure Hotel president and chairman, said in a letter to Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez that even the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) could check this.
Philippine women’s football head coach Let Dimzon told The Manila Times last Monday that kikiam was one of the viands they had and asked for improvement on the variety, quality and quantity of the food served to the athletes.
Kikiam, according to research, is “a sausage-like dish of Chinese origin made of ground pork and vegetables wrapped in bean curd sheets. They are then deep fried and dipped in sauce similar to fishballs.”
