Robredo challenges youth: Be ‘true leaders’ even with an ‘uninspiring boss’

VICE President Maria Leonor “Leni” challenged young leaders to find their “light in the midst of darkness” and “how to find solutions in an environment where the limitations given to you are just too much.”
Robredo delivered her message during the graduation of the Angat Buhay Young Leaders in Government Fellowship Graduation Ceremony in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The Vice President, who was recently dismissed from her post as co-chairman of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), advised the youth never to lose hope amid difficult times.
She also told the graduates, pursuing higher government and legislative posts from different institutions across the country, that true leaders did their jobs despite being uninspired or hampered by their bosses.
“Ang pinakamadali kasi (The easiest way) is to pass the blame on others — Hindi ko nagawa ang trabaho ko, kasi uninspired ako sa aking boss. Hindi ako nag-pe-perform well kasi hindi ako na-mo-motivate ng aking boss. Pag ganon yung ating mga dahilan, hindi tayo tunay na leader (I was not able to do my job because I am uninspired with my boss. I didn’t perform well because I am not motivated by my boss. If those are our reasons, we are not true leaders)” Robredo said.
“Pero ang tunay na leader magsasabing kahit na uninspiring ang aking boss, ginagawa ko pa rin nang maayos ang trabaho ko. Kahit napakahirap, ginagawa ko pa rin nang maayos ang trabaho ko. Hindi ako nag-papaapekto kahit yung boss ko, hinahadalangan ‘yung lahat kong ginagawa. Basta ako, pag hinahadlangan niya, maghahanap ako ng ibang paraan. Ang pinakadali kasi, ipasa (But the true leader will say, even if my boss is uninspiring, I am still doing my job well. Even though difficult, I am still doing my job well.
