A 24-year-old man is in custody facing multiple charges including attempted murder in connection with a shooting last week in New Westminster.
New Westminster police responded to a report of gunshots on Nov. 17, around 7:30 p.m., in the 200 block of Osborne Avenue.
The gunman fled the area before police arrived.
A woman was transported to hospital with unspecified injuries.
Carlos Monteith was arrested with the assistance of the Vancouver Police Department’s emergency response team and has been charged with attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
“NWPD Investigators worked around the clock through the weekend, and because of their commitment to public safety they were able to identify and arrest the suspect to bring him before the courts,” said acting New Westminster police chief Dave Jansen. “I am very proud of the dedication of our officers and of the teamwork with our partners at the Vancouver Police.”
Monteith has two previous convictions this year for assaulting a peace officer and uttering threats.
He remains in custody until his next court appearance on Dec. 2.
