A 23-year-old man has been charged with a single motor vehicle infraction in connection with a Nanaimo car crash that claimed the life of a retired Abbotsford police officer last December.
Sgt. Shinder Kirk, a former spokesman with the Abbotsford Police Department, was driving his Chevrolet pickup west on Cedar Road when his vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound Ford pickup.
Kirk was pronounced dead at the scene.
A charge of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention has now been laid against Conrad Nikolaus Wetten of Nanaimo.
Wetten, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, is due to appear in Nanaimo court on Dec. 17.
