Earthquake damages 26 schools in Bukidnon

TWENTY-SIX schools sustained damage in Northern Mindanao after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit Kadingilan, Bukidnon on Monday night, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.

The damaged schools were 10 in Malaybalay City and 16 in Valencia City.

In Malaybalay City the damaged schools were Apo Macote National High School, Macote Elementary School, Incalbog Elementary School, Managok National High School, Luyungan High School, Mabuhay Elementary School, Dalwangan Elementary School, Sta. Ana Elementary School, Bangcud National High School and Casisang Senior High School.

Meanwhile, in Valencia City, the damaged schools were Dabongdabong Elementary School, Nabag-o Elementary School, Colonia Elementary School, Sinalayan Elementary School, Lurungan Elementary School, Tandacol Elementary School, Vintar Elementary School, Tagalawa Elementary School, Lumbo Elementary School, San Carlos Elementary School, Sinayawan Central Elementary School, Lourdes Integrated School, Bantal Elementary School, Mahayahay Elementary School, Mailag Central Elementary School and San Vicente Elementary School.

DepEd said some 425,00 students in over 1,000 schools were affected by the class suspension due to earthquake.

As of writing, there were no reported casualties, the DepEd said.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has mobilized efforts to rehabilitate the affected schools.

Kadingilan, Bukidnon on Monday night was hit by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake, which was tectonic in origin and its epicenter traced six kilometers northwest of Kadingilan with a depth of 10 kilometers.
