The Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) has asked the Supreme Court to immediately resolve its plea for the creation of a special court to handle Dengvaxia cases.
In an 11-page manifestation with motion for early resolution, PAO chief Persida Rueda Acosta on Monday said it is time for the creation of such a court since the number of victims has increased tremendously.
The PAO said a total of 54 criminal cases for dead Dengvaxia victims had been filed with the Department of Justice (DoJ).
One criminal case was filed for a Dengvaxia survivor and 42 civil cases were filed in courts.
The PAO filed six new criminal cases against Iloilo Rep. Janette Garin and several Health officials over the deaths of children.
Garin was the Health secretary when Dengvaxia vaccines were administered to the victims.
In autopsies conducted by PAO, it appeared that the victims died from complications related to Dengvaxia vaccinations.
The DoJ had found probable cause and approved the indictment of Garin and nine other Health officials for eight counts of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. JOMAR CANLAS
