JOSE “Pepe” Ong, co-founder and chairman of CDO Foodsphere Inc., passed away on Thursday. He was 78.
His son and CDO President Jerome Ong confirmed the death in a statement on Friday.
“He is no longer in pain and he will be our angel watching over us,” the younger Ong said.
“Thanks to all of you for all the love and prayers during this most difficult time.”
In a separate statement, CDO described its “Boss Pepe” as a “loving father to his family and the company.”
“He was our coach, our rock — always inspiring us with his pioneering ideas, his passion and resilience,” the company said.
“He was always there to remind us that nothing is impossible. He will forever be remembered with love and fondness,” it added.
The elder Ong established CDO with his wife Corazon Dayro-Ong, a dietician. Its products include hotdogs, ham, bacon and corned beef.
The Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. (Pampi) expressed grief over Ong, one of its founders, and said the organization would be forever grateful for his contributions.
“Working together with co-founders, he (Jose) moved and guided Pampi to make it one of the leading trade and industry organizations in the country today,” Pampi said.
Before entering the meat processing business, Jose taught Biology at the Ateneo de Manila University.
His wake is being held at the Heritage Park Chapel of The Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City from November 15 to 18.
