A wet and wild weekend is in the forecast for the North Shore and parts of Metro Vancouver.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of heavy rain and strong winds for the Howe Sound, the North Shore, including West and North Vancouver, and the northeast areas of Metro, including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.
Residents in those communities can expect heavy rain and mild conditions beginning early Saturday until midday Sunday, with the heaviest rainfall expected on the west coast of Vancouver Island and coastal communities of the Central Coast. Residents in those areas can expect more than 100 millimetres of rain during the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound and the North Shore mountains can expect more than 50 mm of rain in the span of 24 hours. The rainfall will be accompanied by heavy winds of about 90 km/h Saturday morning.
