A third person has died as a result of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident in Kamloops earlier this month. The collision occurred Nov. 3 around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Battle Street and 1st Avenue.

According to Kamloops RCMP, a pickup “travelling at a high rate” of speed ran a stop sign and crashed into a car carrying four people. Two of the car occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third, a man in his 30s, died Tuesday in hospital.

Thompson Rivers University president Brett Fairbairn said all four people riding in the car were past and present international students. Their names haven’t been released.

The truck fled the scene but the RCMP has identified the alleged driver. No charges have been laid and police say the investigation is continuing.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says investigators are looking for a female witness who assisted with first aid at the scene.

“Once all witnesses have been spoken to and all forensic evidence has been processed, police will then be able to forward all information to the B.C. Prosecution Service who will determine what, if any, charges are applicable,” Shelkie said in a news release.

Anyone with information about the collision, or who may have witnessed the crash, is asked to contact investigators at 250-828-3000.
