Holiday 2019: Five Metro Vancouver events where you can kick off the season

Ready to get the holiday season started?

If so, here’s a quick roundup of a few tree lightings and holiday kickoffs around Metro Vancouver where you can get your merry on sooner rather than later.

Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
St. Paul’s Hospital (1081 Burrard St., Vancouver)

The 22nd annual Lights of Hope display will light up for the first time this season on Thursday evening in downtown Vancouver. More than 100,000 lights and more than 200 stars are a part of the display, which this year will include the new Living Light installation. To celebrate the fundraiser campaign’s 2019 launch, lights at Science World, B.C. Place Stadium, Telus Garden and Davie Street LED will also simultaneously light up.

The display will be lit up and a fireworks show will take place between 6:30 and 7 p.m. The event is free.

Thursday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
CF Pacific Centre Rotunda Plaza (West Georgia and Howe Street, Vancouver)

Top Line Vocal Collective Choir and KiSS Radio’s Tara Jean will be on hand to help light the Pacific Centre Christmas tree, where each guest will receive a special gift. Participating retailers at Pacific Centre will also offer promotions on tree lighting day so for those who enjoy the madness of holiday shopping, it may be a good day for you to get your shopping motors revving. The event is free.

Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
McArthur Glen Designer Outlet (1000-7899 Templeton Station Rd., Richmond)

Gather around as a 52-foot Christmas tree is lit up for the first time this season at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in Richmond. Complimentary photo opportunities with Santa are also available, along with entertainment by Showstoppers and the CCIM Choir and discounts from participating retailers at the outlet. The event is free.

Looking for the perfect backdrop for your holiday selfies? The popular Glow event, previously staged in Langley, is expanding to two locations this year, with one in Abbotsford and the other in Vancouver. Expect all the joy of an outdoor winter festival – with large illuminated structures, licensed bars and live music – inside a warm and spacious 50,000-square-foot venue. Tickets are required.

This free kick-off event with include live entertainment and dazzling light displays around the 1.2-kilometre loop at Lafarge Lake. Food trucks will also be on site between 5 to 9 p.m.
