A new trailer has been released for the B.C.-filmed Sonic The Hedgehog movie – this time with a less creepy version of its titular character.
The movie, which reboots the beloved Sega video game character, was filmed throughout B.C. in 2018 and initially slated for a Nov. 8, 2019 release. The film will now be released on Feb. 14, 2020.
When its first poster and trailer was released last winter, the film received backlash for its rendering of Sonic, which was pictured with human-like teeth and muscular legs that many fans said did not resemble the original character’s look.
On Tuesday, a new trailer was released, featuring tweaked animation and with more of a focus on Sonic’s origin story and relationship with human protagonist played by James Marsden. Sonic himself is voiced by Ben Schwartz.
Several scenes in the new trailer shows Marsden’s character and Sonic travelling down a highway. In September 2018, Vancouver Island’s Highway 19 was closed for five days to accommodate filming.
