SIGNAL No. 1 was raised over parts of Samar because of tropical depression “Ramon,” the state-run weather bureau said on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) last spotted the LPA at 670 kilometers east of Borongan City. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph. Pagasa weather specialist Ana Clauren said it was slowly moving westward.

Gustiness of 30 kph to 60 kph or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours over Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar, Pagasa said. Residents in these areas were advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides.

Gale warning was raised over Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Provinces, Catanduanes, and the eastern coasts of Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon, including Polilio Islands and Samar provinces. Small boats were advised against venturing out into these seas.

Clauren said Ramon may still intensify into a tropical storm in the next two days. It was also expected to make landfall over Isabela or Aurora on Saturday. Ramon is the 18th tropical cyclone to enter Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year and the second in November.

On Wednesday, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are expected over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar. Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are expected over Romblon, Marinduque and Southern Quezon, Pagasa said.

The northeast monsoon is expected to bring cloudy skies with light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. Localized thunderstorms are expected over the rest of Mindanao. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
