International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas will be defending his belt against anyone of three candidates — Chilean Miguel Gonzalez, Colombian Rober Barrera and Venezuelan Michell Banquez.
International matchmaker Sean Gibbons aid that they would make the final choice among these three fighters this coming week together with the Top Rank Promotion headed by Bob Arum.
The fights is set on December 7 bout in Puebla, Mexico.
The 30-year-old Gonzalez (31-2 win-loss record with eight knockouts) of Santiago de Chile is coming off an eighth round technical knockout win against Venezuelan Jimson Garcia last October 12 in Chile to retain his World Boxing Association Fedelatin super flyweight belt.
“Top Rank hasn’t confirmed yet (Ancajas’ opponent), but he (Gonzalez) is one of the three [candidates],” Gibbons said via online interview Sunday morning, who also provided the names of Venezuelan fighter Banquez (19-1 with 13 knockouts) and the Colombian Barrera (23-2 with 13 knockouts).
Ancajas (31-1-2 win-loss-draw record with 21 knockouts) was supposed to fight Mexican Jonathan Javier Rodriguez last November 2 in Carson, California, but his eighth world title defense was postponed after the challenger failed to show up two days before the bout due to ‘visa and medical issues.’
