1 dead from landslide in Cagayan village

ONE person died from a landslide in Cagayan province caused by heavy rains brought by severe tropical storm “Quiel” (international name: Nakri), according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its situational report, the NDRRMC said the lone fatality was from Barangay (village) Magdalena of Claveria, Cagayan.
The victim’s identity has been withheld pending verification.
Separate landslide incidents were also recorded by the NDRRMC in two villages at Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. One was reported in Pasaleng while the other was in Pancian. No casualties were reported.
In Pasaleng, the NDRRMC said one lane was passable as the regional Department of Public Works and Highways cleared the area.
The bad weather also affected a total of 752 families or 2,719 persons in 43 villages of Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that Quiel may intensify into a typhoon as it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either on Friday night or Saturday morning.
The weather disturbance was last spotted 375 kilometers west-northwest of Coron, Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 135 kph. DEMPSEY REYES
