Work, land row eyed in Dumaguete radioman’s slay

BACOLOD CITY – Police are looking into work-related issues and land conflict as possible motives behind the gunslaying of a radio broadcaster in Baragay Piapi, Dumaguete City, at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Lt. Col. Wilfredo Alarcon, chief of Dumaguete City Police Station in Negros Oriental, said blocktimer radioman Dindo Generoso, 67, of Barangay Banilad, succumbed to nine gunshot wounds.
Police said Generoso was driving his brown Hyundai Hyundai Elantra (YKU 946) on his way to host his daily program Konsensya sa Probinsiya over dyEM 96.7 Bai Radio when two motorcycle-riding men wearing masks tailed him from his house.
The assailants blocked his path at the corner of Hibbard Avenue and EJ Blanco Drive in Barangay Piapi and repeatedly shot him.
The gunmen immediately fled after the shooting.
Generoso was rushed to a hospital where he later expired.
Probers recovered from the crime scene seven fired bullets of .45-caliber pistol.
Known for his hard-hitting commentaries, Generoso recently received death threats through phone calls based on the statement of his family, according to Alarcon.
“He was possibly targeted because of his commentaries,” Alarcon said.
Alarcon also said that the killing might be related to his family’s land conflict.
