Catch the Iconic Wineries of British Columbia group (CedarCreek Estate Winery, Checkmate Artisanal Winery, Martin’s Lane Winery, Mission Hill Estate Winery, and Road 13 Winery) at Science World at Telus World of Science on Nov. 14, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Winemakers, viticulturists and chefs from the wineries showcase the science, craftsmanship and terroir that puts Okanagan wines on the world map. There will be interactive activities, a sparkling wine lounge, Q&A sessions and tastings from the wineries. Seminars include the art of blending wine, the science of aging wine, technology and the modern organic vineyard, and the science of soil. Chefs from Mission Hill and CedarCreek wineries will be cooking dishes to pair with the fine wines.
Proceeds support Science World’s On the Road program, which takes Telus World of Science performances to students throughout B.C. outside of the Metro Vancouver area. Tickets are available for $89 from scienceworld.ca/uncorked.
On Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. chefs from Big Day BBQ, St. Lawrence, Livia Sweets and Bakery, DL Chicken Shack, DownLow Burgers, Au Comptoir, Legends Haul, Juke, Beetbox, Nightingale, Trans Am, and Published will be cooking to raise funds and awareness on behalf of mental health issues in restaurant kitchens. The Kitchen Aide fundraiser will be at Cafe Medina and will benefit Mind the Bar Foundation.
“There are so many things that need to be addressed and on the forefront is wage, hours, and addiction all culminating in challenges to quality of life and mental health,” says Lindsey Mann, co-owner of DL Chicken Shack and DownLow Burgers. “It’s going to take a whole industry to come together for change and all lovers of food to support but what better way than the most familiar thing we love and need — conversation and food.”
For more information, visit Kitchenaide’s Instagram page at instagram.com/kitchenaideyvr. Tickets, $100 are available via Eventbrite.
On the third Thursday of every month, Coquille, under chef Lee Cooper and chef de cuisine Chris Janowski creates a four-course seasonal seafood menu with wine pairings (Chef’s Catch dinner series) for $89. It’ll focus on a different Ocean Wise seafood each month.
“Our focus will be to showcase what’s sustainable and available from our oceans on a seasonal basis,” says Cooper. “This fall and winter we are inviting guests to come in for a cosy, communal dinner each month where we’ll put together a thoughtful wine-paired Ocean Wise menu.”
Wine director Samantha Ross will be pairing the food with both local and international wines. Seats, facing the open kitchen, are limited to 18 guests and tickets are available at coquillefineseafood.com/events. The next one is on Nov. 21.
