THE net satisfaction rating of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration dropped slightly but remained “very good” in the third quarter of 2019, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Wednesday.
The poll from September 27 to 30 showed that 77 percent were satisfied by the Duterte administration’s general performance, 10 percent were dissatisfied, and 13 percent were undecided.
The latest figure gave Duterte a net satisfaction rating of +67, which is considered by SWS as “very good.”
“This is six points below the record-high excellent +73 (82 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied) in June 2019, and similar to the very good +66 in December 2018,” SWS said.
SWS attributed the six-point decrease in the administration’s overall net satisfaction rating to declines of 10 points in Mindanao, 10 points in Balance Luzon, and one point in the Visayas, combined with a 12-point increase in Metro Manila.
The government’s net satisfaction fell from excellent to very good in Balance Luzon, from +73 in June to +63 in September.
It stayed excellent in Mindanao, although down by 10 points from +80 in June to +70 in September.
It also stayed excellent in the Visayas, down by 1 point from +71 in June to +70 in September.
However, it rose from very good to excellent in Metro Manila, up by 12 points from +59 in June to +71 in September.
The government’s performance also fell to “very good” in rural areas (+67) and “very good” in urban areas (+67).
In classes A, B, and C, the Duterte administration’s net satisfaction rating rose from “very good” to “excellent” with +78, an increase from June’s +60z
But it fell seven points from “excellent” to “very good” in class D (+66) and declined to “very good” with +68 in class D.
Respondents interviewed for the survey were also asked to rate the government’s performance on several subjects.
Out of 16 specific performance subjects rated, net satisfaction ratings of the Duterte administration were very good on three subjects, good on 11 subjects, moderate on one subject, and neutral on one subject.
The Duterte administration garnered a “very good” rating on helping the poor (+62), providing information needed by the citizens to properly examine what the government is doing (+54), and having clear policies (+53).
The respondents also rated “good” on the government’s performance on fighting terrorism (+49), developing a healthy economy (+48), protecting the freedom of the press (+47), reconciliation with Muslim rebels (+40), foreign relations (+39), reconciliation with communist rebels (+38), eradicating graft and corruption in government (+32), recovering ill-gotten wealth of former president Marcos and his cronies (+30), among others.
It posted a “moderate” rating on ensuring that no family would ever be hungry and have nothing to eat (+28), and “neutral” on fighting inflation (+5).
The September poll used face-to-face interviews on 1,800 adults nationwide, sampling error margins of ±2.3 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent each for Balance Luzon and Mindanao, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila and the Visayas.
