Police in Kamloops have arrested the owner of a pickup truck involved in a collision that killed two people early Sunday.
Around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, Kamloops RCMP were called to the intersection of 1st Avenue and Battle Street where a car and a truck had collided. Two of four occupants inside the car had died by the time first responders arrived at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital. One remains in life-threatening condition while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck had fled the area before officers arrived at the scene. Later in the afternoon, police announced the registered owner of the pickup had been located and was arrested.
Police have since closed roads in the area as they investigate the circumstances of the collision.
“Due to the severity of this collision, our investigation could take most of the day,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “We thank motorists for avoiding this area and taking alternate routes.”
Anyone with information about the collision, or who may have witnessed the collision, is asked to contact investigators at 250-828-3000.
