Vancouver fire crews have extinguished an apartment fire that broke out at a West End highrise on Thursday evening.
Three fire crews attended to the blaze at Sunset Plaza, a 28-storey building located at 1111 Beach Avenue, at the corner of Beach and Thurlow and near the popular tourist destination Sunset Beach.
The fire broke out around 6 p.m. The building was quickly evacuated as firefighters rushed to the site and into the burning structure to reach the source of the fire, a 16th floor studio suite. There were no reported injuries. The cause is under investigation.
Images and videos posted to social media showed the flames shooting out from the building onto the apartment balcony.

Vancouver Fire Chief Darrell Reid said on Twitter around 7:30 p.m. that the crews were successful in knocking down the fire, and that there were no injuries.

The fire broke out little over a block from the site of another recent downtown Vancouver fire. Another three-alarm fire just around the corner on the 1200 block of Pacific Street destroyed an apartment in June. That fire was caused by staining rags soaked in combustible linseed oil that were left on a balcony on a hot summer day.
