SAANICH — A chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles Thursday was set off by two collisions with a deer on the Patricia Bay Highway near Saanich.
Police say the crash happened when a northbound driver struck the deer and when that vehicle slowed it was hit from behind by another vehicle. The impact sent the deer into the southbound lanes of the highway where it was struck again, setting off a series of rear-end collisions.
The deer survived and was seen running away from the highway.
Saanich Fire and B.C. Ambulance say two drivers were treated at the scene and no one was transported to hospital.
Police say four of the vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed.
