The B.C. SPCA is urging residents to “fall head over tails in love” at their annual adoption promotion.
During the one-day event, which takes place Nov. 9 in partnership with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, animals at each SPCA branch across the province — cats, dogs, birds and small critters like rats and guinea pigs — are available for adoption at 50 per cent off the standard fee.
Some farm animals will also be available at the same discount, on a case-by-case basis.
But this isn’t a pet sale. The SPCA is a not-for-profit venture, whose adoption fees merely help to cover the cost of caring for animals during the search for loving homes. The animal welfare organization adopted out over 14,000 animals last year. They all had to eat in the meantime.
The Fall Head Over Tails in Love event is relatively new, It debuted last year to great success, successfully finding homes for 212 animals — at that time, roughly 40 per cent of all the animals in B.C. SPCA care at that time.
Suffice it to say, the SPCA would like to see something like that happen again.
“This adoption event was such a success last year that each of our 36 adoption facilities are eager to find loving homes for animals in our care,” said B.C. SPCA COO Mark Takhar. “Welcoming a rescued animal into your home is a rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
Takhar added that the event is important not just for the animals, but for the organization’s shelters, which can only house so many unwanted creatures and will undoubtedly use the space freed up by another successful promotion to care for additional vulnerable animals in the community.
If you are interested in giving a pet its forever home, you can view the SPCA’s roster of adoptable animals online or by visiting local branches.
