A 25-year-old Vancouver woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree murder in the 2018 slaying of her common-law husband.

In a prepared statement, Vancouver police said Shannon Watts had been charged after a months-long murder investigation.

Police were called to Watts’s apartment in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside on June 28, 2018, where Shane Tolmie was found suffering a stab wound. He later died in hospital.

Watts was arrested at the scene, but released from custody pending completion of the probe and approval of the charge by Crown counsel.

There were 15 homicides in Vancouver in 2018.
