THE Department of Health (DoH) confirmed on Monday that another case of polio had been detected in Maguindanao.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said the patient was a four-year-old girl in Datu Piang town.
The child’s stool test result sent on October 24 to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan came back positive. It was a vaccine-derived poliovirus linked with a confirmed polio case in Morogong, Lanao del Sur.
The patient did not receive oral polio vaccine and was first reported as a case of acute flaccid paralysis in September.
The Health department will conduct a vaccination drive for children up to 59 months old in Datu Piang on November 4 to 8.
Meanwhile, officials of the DoH and representatives of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Childrens’ Fund will meet with the local officials of Datu Piang on October 28 to 29 to discuss the outbreak response.
The Health department again called on parents to have their children vaccinated under the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” program.
