A fisherman is in critical condition after being pulled from the frigid Capilano River by firefighters on Sunday afternoon.
According to B.C. Emergency Health Services, three ambulances – including an advanced care unit – were called to the river, just south of the Capilano River Salmon Hatchery, at 12:50 p.m.
One patient was treated at the scene by advanced care paramedics and sent to the hospital in critical condition, while the other was sent to hospital in stable condition.
Caeli Turner, a spokeswoman for BCEHS, did not know if the two had fallen into the river.
“All I know is the incident was along the river. We received the call from the fire department,” Turner said.
It is believed one person was fishing when they fell into the river. A friend then jumped in to help, however the fisherman was swept away.
The friend was able to get back to shore safely and suffered minor injuries, while the fisherman continued downstream.
North Vancouver firefighters were able to locate the person, who was then taken to hospital.
RCMP also called to the scene.
