The water level at Angat Dam, the primary source of water supply for Metro Manila, might continue to decline because of lack of sufficient rainfall, the weather bureau said.
On Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services
Administration (Pagasa) recorded Angat’s elevation at 185.87 meters, a 0.36-meter drop from the previous day.
This is way below the 210-meter normal high water level and only more than 5 meters above the 180-meter minimum operating level.
Pagasa hydrologist Edgar de la Cruz said the water level would further go down if no rain would fall in the next few days.
Angat’s elevation started to drop after reaching 191 meters during the last week of September.
On Thursday, water concessionaires started implementing a new round of service interruptions because of the dam’s dwindling level.
