SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has called on government agencies concerned to speed up the relocation of the victims of a fire that killed one person and destroyed about 200 houses at the Fishport Market 3 in Barangay North Bay Boulevard South in Navotas City on October 18.
“Nananawagan po ako sa Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, sa LGU (local government unit) ng Navotas, sa National Housing Authority at sa iba pang miyembro ng Local Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee na pabilisin at i-fast-track ang relocation ng ating mga kababayan (I am calling on the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, the LGU of Navotas, the National Housing Authority and other members of the Local Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee to speed up the relocation of our countrymen),” Go said.
The senator stressed that the fire victims should be moved to a location that is comfortable and safe.
Go visited the fire victims on Wednesday and distributed cash assistance and grocery packs.
“Kapag ganitong kailangang matugunan ang problema ninyo, pupuntahan ko kayo kahit anong oras po (If you have problems that need immediate assistance, rest assured that I will come to you anytime),” Go told the victims who were gathered at the North Bay Boulevard North Elementary School.
The senator said he would take care of the uniforms and school supplies of the affected children and offered to pay for the fare of those who want to relocate to their provinces.
The residents cheered upon hearing Go’s statement of support.
“Nalulungkot po ako kapag nababalitaang may namatay. Magtulungan tayo. Kaya nating bilhin ‘yung mga damit, mga gamit. ‘Yung buhay po, di nabibili, kaya ingat po tayo parati (I am saddened when I hear news of someone’s death. Let’s help one another. We can buy clothes, appliances, but not lives, so we have to be careful),” the senator said.
He shared that he filed a Fire Protection Modernization bill in the Senate that seeks to modernize the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Senate Bill 204 aims to give the fire bureau better equipment and resources to train its personnel.
