THE private operator of Metro Manila toll roads is expecting a 10 percent surge in traffic volume during the All Saints’ Day break.
At the media briefing for the “Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko” (SMSK), Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) Chief Communications Officer Romulo Quimbo Jr. said motorists may witness a buildup on October 31 as President Rodrigo Duterte declared November 1 a holiday to observe All Saints’ Day.
MPTC, the road infrastructure arm of conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC)., holds long-term concessions in the Philippines to operate the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).
On a regular day, NLEX services 260,000 vehicles; Cavitex, 160,000; and SCTEX, 60,000.
Since the “Undas” break is considered to be one of the peak seasons in the country, Quimbo said the group was prepared to accommodate the influx of motorists on these main highways.
The MPTC official also urged motorists to take advantage of the expressways’ electronic toll collection system for a smoother traffic.
