Senate honors ‘Nene’ Pimentel

THE Senate on Wednesday paid tribute to its former head, the late senator Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr.
Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd led senators in honoring the life and accomplishments of Pimentel Jr., the author of the Local Government Code of 1991 and the Organic Act of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
Pimentel succumbed to pneumonia and lymphoma complications on October 20 at the age of 85.
His remains were brought to the Senate on Wednesday morning.
The former senators who attended the necrological rites were Joseph “Erap” Estrada, Luisa “Loi” Ejercito, Joey Lina, Ana Coseteng, Heherson Alvarez, Rene Saguisag, Rodolfo Biazon, Robert Jaworski, John Osmeña, Wigberto Tañada, Alfredo Lim, Eddie Ilarde, Noli de Castro, and Orlando Mercado.
Sotto presented to the Pimentel family a resolution expressing the Senate’s “profound sympathy and sincere condolences” which was authored by all of the members of the 18th Congress of the Senate.
Senate Resolution (SR) 168 was received by Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd on behalf of his mother, Lourdes, and sisters human rights commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, Ma. Petrina, Teresa and Lorraine, and brother Aquilino 4th.
