President Rodrigo Duterte will disclose to the public the result of his medical consultation, Malacañang said on Wednesday, amid growing concerns about the Chief Executive’s health following a motorcycle accident last week.
Duterte was expected to see a neurologist on Wednesday after he complained of “unbearable pain” in his spinal column that made him cut short his visit to Japan.
Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said that the public “need not be apprehensive about the President’s health.”
“His consultation with a doctor is aimed at determining the medical condition of his body, as well as finding out whether his previous spinal injury from a past motorcycle accident has been aggravated by his recent fall,” Panelo said in a statement.
“The President shall inform our countrymen on the result of his medical consultation,” he added.
Last week, Duterte fell off his motorcycle inside Malacañang complex.
Some world leaders, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, expressed concern over the President’s fall.
The accident, however, did not stop the 74-year-old leader from fulfilling his public engagements, including his meeting with India’s President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday and witnessing the enthronement of Japan’s Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo on Tuesday. Catherine Valente
