Tan named MAP’s Management Man

THE Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) on Tuesday named Nestor Tan, president and chief executive officer of BDO Unibank Inc., as its 2019 Management Man of the Year for his efforts in bringing the Sy-led banking giant at the forefront while contributing to nation-building.

In a general meeting in Makati City, MAP bestowed the award on the BDO chief after meeting the board’s criteria and receiving approval from the organization’s members.

Edgar Chua, vice chairman of the MAP Management of the Year judging committee, said Tan consistently placed BDO on the map as one of the best-managed banks in
the country, as it offers leasing, trust, stock brokerage, private banking, rural banking and insurance services, among others.

MAP also lauded Tan for his “leadership role in the substantial contributions of the BDO Group to national development through job creation and income generation.”

With his vast knowledge in banking industry, MAP recognized Tan’s initiative in promoting financial literacy and inclusion among teachers, soldiers, overseas Filipino workers and young people, among others.

The organization also recognized Tan’s contributions to improve banking services and industry as president of the Bankers Association of the Philippines.

The Management Man of the Year honor is conferred on individuals from the public or private sector who embody high level of management skills and contribute to betterment of the country. Tan is the 43rd recipient in the award’s nearly five-decade history. Ayala Corp. President Fernando Zobel de Ayala was last year’s honoree.
Also during the meeting, MAP announced its new governors, whose term will start in January.

They are KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Bonoan, University of the Philippines President Danilo Concepcion, P&A Grant Thornton Chair and Chief Executive Officer Maria Victoria Españo and Far Eastern University Group of Companies Chairman Aurelio Montinola 3rd.
