Journalist, companion killed in Pampanga ambush

A tabloid columnist and his
companion were killed in an ambush in Arayat, Pampanga on Sunday.

Jupiter Gonzales, a columnist of Remate, and his friend Christopher Tiongson were on board a Nissan Almera with plate number AQA-8441 when they were attacked by unidentified gunmen at about 10:30 p.m.

Tiongson died on the spot. Gonzales was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) condemned the killing.

Undersecretary Jose Joel Sy Egco, executive director of the PTFoMS, immediately coordinated with the police operative in Arayat to speed up the investigation. He led a team of investigators that inspected the crime scene on Sunday.

Gonzales was known for being a staunch critic of illegal gambling in local carnivals. Jaime Pilapil
