THE Presidential Electoral Tribunal’s (PET) resolution and the results of the recount in the three pilot provinces related to former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s protest shows who is telling the truth, Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo said.
In its resolution promulgated on October 15, it indicated that Robredo’s lead over Marcos increased after the revision and appreciation of votes in those provinces.
At kami, nalulungkot na umaabot sa pagsisinungaling para lang makuha iyong kanilang kagustuhan,” Robredo said in an interview on Saturday.
(When the PET resolution and the results of the recount were released, we were really happy because if you will recall, two or three weeks ago, our lawyers filed a motion with PET to make public the results. The only reason why we asked for it is because of the false allegations. A lot of fake news have been coming out from the Marcos camp, saying that the real VP will soon assume the post. And we are saddened by the fact that they have resorted to lies to get what they want.)
Nandoon iyong kanilang mga watchers, kaya alam nila na iyon iyong resulta“, she said.
(The release of the resolution, the release of the results of the recount show who is telling the truth. And they cannot question those because their watchers were there when the recount was made. Their watchers were there, so they know that that was the result.)
Kaya mas mabuti na galing na talaga sa PET iyong kung ano talaga iyong nag-transpire during the recount“, she said.
(It’s just sad because they know the results and they still choose to issue fake news. This is why it is important that the results come from PET and what really happened during the recount.)
Robredo and Marcos were the closest rivals in the 2016 vice presidential elections. Marcos lodged an election protest against Robredo after he lost by over 200,000 votes against the former congresswoman.
The PET said in part in the resolution that Robredo “maintained, as in fact she increased, her lead with 14,436,337 votes over protestant Marcos who obtained 14,157,771 votes.”
It said that her lead rose from 263,473 to 278,566.
“Babalikan natin iyong lahat na statements na nilabas nila, kine-claim na nila iyong victory from the very start. Robredo said in part in the interview.
(Let us recall all their statements, they were claiming victory from the very start. They branded me as as fake VP [or Vice President] and my question is now that the results of the recount are out, who is the fake VP between the two of us?)
“Iyong sa akin lang, nanalo ako noong 2016, pinroklama ako ng Congress, ngayon siya iyong nagpa-recount, siya iyong pumili ng provinces, iyong pinili niyang provinces nanalo ulit ako, dapat tanggapin na lang“, she said.
(As far as I am concerned, I won in 2016, was proclaimed by Congress. Now, he requested for a recount, chose the provinces where I won so he should accept the results.)
Marcos had chosen Iloilo, Camarines Sur, and Negros Oriental as pilot provinces.
In the interview, Robredo also said in part that “kahit pinapa-submit pa kami further ng comments, gagawin namin iyon. Pero ganoon pa rin iyong aming paniniwala na iyong katanggap-tanggap lang talagang desisyon ay iyong dismissal dahil iyon naman iyong sang-ayon sa rules ng Presidential Electoral Tribunal (even if we were ordered to submit further comments, we will do it. But our belief is the same that the only acceptable decision is dismissal [of the protest] because that is what is in accordance with the rules of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal).”
Asked if she had a personal message for Marcos, she said that she had none.
(I have no personal message because he doesn’t listen anyway. As far as I am concerned, you have involved the whole country to get what you want. You want to disenfranchise the voters, you want to remove choice, to allow them to choose their leader to fulfill your ambition, your own desire. I think, that is what is wrong — that you are willing to sacrifice everything to get what you want.)
