WITH the brouhaha regarding the status of rising star Rhenz Abando already over and done with, University of Santo Tomas can now focus on a more important matter – securing a berth in the Final Four.

Rhenz Abando is not going anywhere as he intends to remain a Tiger.

Not only the Tigers but also the three other teams playing on Saturday – National University, Far Eastern University and La Salle – are in dire need of a win to firm up their respective semis bids in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

So expect tense and perhaps wild finishes when the Tigers collide with the Bulldogs while the Archers take on the Tamaraws.

The UST-NU match is at 2 p.m. with the Tigers shooting for a second straight win to improve their 6-5 mark behind early semifinalist Ateneo Blue Eagles (11-0) and University of the Philippines (6-4).

Abando was surprisingly benched in UST’s Wednesday game against UP which they won 84-78 after alleged reports that two rival schools were courting him.

UST coach Aldin Ayo remained mum on the issue following that win but released a statement a few days later that the Pangasinan rookie-transferee has always been committed to the school, saying that “he’s here until the end of his collegiate career” after their meeting with school officials.

“It’s already resolved,” Ayo said.
