THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in coordination with other government agencies, is “all set” for the synchronized oral polio vaccination next week.

The Department of Health (DoH), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Cross Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will help the PRC in enforcing a massive oral polio vaccination from October 14 to 27 at the National Capital Region (NCR), Davao del Sur, Davao City, and Lanao del Sur.

The PRC will mobilize 550 trained volunteers and staff who will be divided into four teams composed of a leader, vaccinator, recorder and a health educator/hygiene promoter.

Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease caused by poliovirus, according to research. “It is a highly contagious illness that can be transmitted from person to person, fecal to mouth route and also throughfood and water contaminated by the virus.”

Fever, fatigue, headache, stiffness in the neck, vomiting and pain in the limbs are the usual signs and symptoms of an infected person. JAN ARCILLA
